YBIRÁ has its origins in Tupi-Guarani and means "tree", "that which grows from the ground" or "that which comes from the earth.
Location: São José farm, rural area, Marechal Deodoro, AL, North East, Brazil.

In August 2024 we started and you will be able to follow the development of activities from the very beginning.
Currently most of the area is covered by pastures, but little by little we will transform it into a food forest for animals and humans.
Our mission is to restore and regenerate ecosystems through sustainable agroforestry practices, promoting harmony between agricultural production and environmental preservation. We seek to increase land productivity, improve soil quality, and strengthen local communities by offering sustainable and profitable alternatives for agriculture.
Activities developed:
The farm had been abandoned for more than 5 years. We are slowly revitalizing the area due to the limited availability of financial resources.
We started by cutting down the weeds on the property and fencing areas 1 and 2 to protect our first plantations from trampling by neighboring cattle, which enter our area due to the lack of effective fences.
We use thrush cuttings harvested on the farm.
We received several donations of seeds and seedlings and inputs authorized by organic agriculture.

We sowed using cuttings and seeds.
We planted seedlings of native species in the riparian forest of Lagoa Manguaba.

We built our first seedling nursery, which is not yet finished.
We built the compost bin with old coconut trees and thrush cuttings harvested on the farm, to recycle organic waste and generate fertilizer for the soil.

The plumbing at this spring needs to be renewed.
Spring area:
We are starting the Jackfruit harvest and we want to benefit this food that is so important for the local bioeconomy.
Planning for the coming months:
• Benefit from jackfruit in its various possibilities, such as making shredded green jackfruit for vegan food;
• Buy a fruit dehydrator to take advantage of the jackfruit, cashew and mango harvest to dehydrate these 3 seasonal fruits;
• Install irrigation and purchase a tractor to increase the agroforestry area in area 3;
• Buy materials and inputs to complete the seedling nursery to expand sowing for agroforestry;
• Install a small agroforestry chicken coop for nutrient cycling and egg production;
• Revitalize area 2 (housing) to begin receiving groups of students, farmers and customers to exchange experiences and volunteer.
• The area has great tourist potential as it is located on the edge of the Manguaba lagoon, which can be worked on in the future
